Love and Transgression in a Time Machine
You are to undertake research and reflections based on perceptions of Shakespeare in two eras.
1. Elizabethan Era
a. You are to undertake research about ONE of these characters from Shakespeare in Love:
- Philip Henslowe
- Christopher Marlowe
- Elizabeth I
b. You are to write a one page summary that explains:
- What happened in his/her life.
- Her/his relationship to the theatre of the day.
- His/her relationship with Shakespeare.
c. Then, you are to write a 1-2 page letter that analyses one scene from Twelfth Night from their perspective. In this, you must include:
- What he/she think the scenes are about.
- What she/he thinks about the words Shakespeare uses.
- How the scene could be acted / staged.
- How the scenes may relate to their life and/or job.
2. Modern Era
You are to write a 2 page (minimum) newspaper feature article that analyses three scenes from the play. One must be the scene discussed in 1c. In this article, you must include the following:
- What you think the scenes are about.
- What you think of the words and other techniques Shakespeare uses.
- How the scenes could be acted and staged.
- How the scenes relate to the modern world and/or your life.
Other Conditions
- You can choose three scenes about either major theme - love or transgression, or do a mix of love and transgression.
- The assignment is to be handed in a booklet or plastic sleeve.
